Stumbling on Happiness

Gilbert, Daniel. 2007. Stumbling on Happiness. Vintage.

To make happy kids, parents need to know something about the source of happiness. This book will not lead you there in a step-by-step way. In fact, Gilbert states clearly that this book is no instruction manual. But if you like to really think about things, if you like to explore how people think, then this book is for you.

Gilbert can be funny, is always insightful, and he will give you some real understanding of things that people think. Many times as you read this book, though, you might ask: Why would anyone think that way. The answer often is: That’s just how people work.

By learning more about what goes on inside our brains—quirky as it often is—perhaps we can better understand the nuts and bolts inside our psyche. And maybe—just maybe, probably only a little maybe—it can help us find a way to being happier. Then, we can pass some of that knowledge on to kids.
